What you'll do

Come for a mindful nature walk across my farm in the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside. We will start with an overview of the history of this organic farm, its heritage of environmental protection, as well as plans for the future including woodland creation and increased biodiversity.

Immersing and 'bathing' ourselves in nature has numerous benefits for our health and wellbeing. It restores our attention and calms our nervous system. The walk will begin in silence as we walk along the ridge of Pitchcott Hill and tune into the sights, sounds and smells of the surroundings. As we reach the top of the hill we will reflect on our observations and then open our awareness to the expansive views across Aylesbury Vale, from the renovated windmill at Quainton to Waddesdon Manor on the horizon. From this position there are views for miles in all directions and we will pause to notice how our attention systems contracts and expands to absorb this sensory experience.

As we continue our tour of the land we will look out for wildlife and consider their perspective, from the insects pollinating the wildflowers, the scurrying wild hares and deer, or the birds eye view of red kites wheeling up above.

As we return to the farmhouse courtyard we will conclude with a mindfulness meditation to embody the learning and deep connection that we have experienced with nature.

As the owner and steward of the land at the farm, I am continuing the heritage of my grandfather's pioneering environmental protection, while incorporating my knowledge and experience of mindfulness and the benefits of nature for health and wellbeing.

My research and work looks at how shifting fixed perspectives and generating compassion improves well-being. I have published articles and conference papers including research on the benefits of open awareness, creativity and nature connectedness for health and wellbeing. I have developed workshops exploring how to broaden awareness and respond to challenges from a more spacious perspective. I have trained in the ‘Body in Mind’ Neurocognitive Model and have completed trainings and courses in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Compassionate Mindfulness and Somatic Experiencing.
