About your host

Hi there! My name is Em and I would love to bring you around one of my fav. hangouts in Melbourne-Chinatown! I am an artist, photographer and designer by training but for the last 5 years, I have been working as an Education presenter/guide for the Chinese Museum in Melbourne! An extreme culture-vulture. I am your one-stop shop when it comes to anything to do with Culture, History, Art and Design…

What we’ll do

In the 1850s when Australia experienced the Gold Rush, it brought in mass numbers of Chinese immigrants into the country for the first time. During the peak period of the Gold Rush, there were 50,000 Chinese here, yet by 1973, Only 9000 were left! Where did they go? My tour will cover history, culture, politics and of course the glorious food that the Chinese brought into Australia, past present…
