What you'll do

We will first meet you in front of (location), where we will take you inside to give you an introduction to the forthcoming activities. We will spend some time chatting and getting to know you, and creating a warm and friendly environment as we ease into our presentation and preparation of the kava that we will share. You will be directly involved in the process of preparing the kava, so be prepared to get your hands wet! Making kava is not messy, but it does involve kneading the powder through a strainer in the water for several minutes. We will teach you the correct methods of kava preparation as we guide you through the steps. We will also answer in detail any questions that you may have. Once the kava is prepared we will begin our relaxation time as we share the drink as a group. As we serve the initial bowls of kava we will continue with our presentation on the history, culture and chemistry of kava. As kava is known to be conducive to meaningful and relaxed discussion we will allow the conversation to flow as we enjoy the calming effects of kava to some nice music and good company!

My partner Dr Zbig Dumienski and I are knowledgeable and passionate kava enthusiasts who have been preparing and consuming kava ourselves for the past decade. We are also founders of the New Zealand Kava Society and we import the highest quality kava that is available in the New Zealand market. Over the years, we’ve run numerous kava workshops during which we provide education on kava’s origins, properties and benefits, as well as practical guidelines for preparing and enjoying the beverage.

Where you'll be

The location of our experience is quiet and comfortable. This is necessary for experiencing the calming effects of kava in the best way possible. The venue is easily accessible from downtown Auckland, but also far enough away from the busiest parts of town.
