What you'll do
We'll begin our adventure at Carmel Coffee Roasters on Ocean Ave in Carmel, CA While there you will have a chance to pickup some coffee and an almond croissant (yum) to give you energy for the journey ahead. I'll hand you a polaroid with 10 shots of film (you can buy more before we leave) and show you how to use the camera. We'll walk some of the streets in Carmel and I will introduce you to the 4 techniques you will hone on our trip. Simplicity. - Remove distractions from your images. What part of your photo do you want the eyes to gravitate towards? Balance. - Imagine your subject is on one side of a seesaw. What in the background gives a feeling of balance? A certain object? A bright color? A deep shadow? Point of View. - Work the shot by moving your feet. Get up close to your subject. What feeling does that give you? Stand far away. Tilt your camera. Raise it above your head! How do you want the viewer to perceive your subject? Geometry. - Do you see lines? How about points? How about shooting through something like a fence? Think Abstract. We'll then hop in our cars (you must have a rental or your own). You'll follow me my favorite photo spots along the coast.
I moved from New York to Carmel in 2016 to continue my career with Apple as a Creative. Music and photography are my outlets. I write and record my own stuff. As a local photographer I'm constantly discovering little nooks off the beaten path. I have taught many at Apple in a hands on group. This experience is all about composition. It’s never the camera that makes the best photograph, it’s the shooter. I'll show you how to arrange objects in the frame, and you'll take shots of local spots you will love. There's no better souvenir to take home from your trip than a polaroid photo.

Where you'll be
We'll visit: Monastery Beach in Carmel. There is an overlook above Carmel's least crowded beach. Wales frequently visit. Palo Colorado Rd. Here you'll see old log cabins dwarfed by tall redwoods wedged between two small mountains. Bixby Creek Bridge. The bridge is a gorgeous arch built in the 30's. A true California classic scene. Garrapata State Park Beach. Scenic beach vista of the ragged coastline and a natural succulent garden.
