What you'll do

If you’ve never tasted a slice of real bread made the old-fashioned way, it's time to try baking one yourself. You’ll be surprised at how addictive artisan bread-making can be. All you need are three basic ingredients - flour, water, and salt - and time, lots of it. This is a hands-on workshop where you will do everything yourself - weigh, mix, knead, shape and bake! In between all of the work, I will share all my trips and learnings from baking sourdough at home. At the end of the day you get to hold an artisan sourdough loaf, inhale its tangy aroma, admire the rustic appearance, and slice through the crackly crust to the soft crumb inside. For lunch there will be sourdough bread to eat with salads and sides, real butter, homemade preserves and much else. You are in for an artisan treat - close your eyes, take a bite, and taste the complexity of flavours! Did I mention tea? Lots of tea. It's a Mad Tea Party experience after all!

Anita

I stumbled into the magical world of sourdough some 7 years ago. I now bake real bread twice a week using only my bubbly sourdough starter, flour, water, and salt! I practice in the design field and find time to cook everyday. I cook with local and seasonal ingredients some sourced from my wild roof-top garden where I grow herbs and vegetables. Ever careful of my environmental footprint I try to look carefully at consumption and waste issues. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle - I practice that. I have been successfully composting my kitchen and garden waste since 2014! Yay!

What's included

Food
A sumptuous lunch. Sourdough bread with fresh salads and sides, and artisan preserves.
Drinks
Tea. Depending on what's growing in the garden, some interesting brews and tisanes.

Where you'll be

We'll learn to bake the bread in my light-filled home on a typical urban lot in Delhi. We will likely go up to the roof-top take a tour of my terrace garden and see what the bees and butterflies have been up to.
