What you'll do

On arrival we'll enjoy a traditional Tibetan tea in the beautiful surroundings of Clementi House, chatting about momos and Tibetan food culture in general.

My daughter Caroline and I will then teach you to make momos from scratch, starting with the traditional dough, and a meat or vegan filling depending on your preference. We will also be making a delicious Tibetan tomato chilli to dip the momos in, and a side dish of vegetables. You'll enjoy a glass of prosecco or a beer while cooking to make the experience even more fun!

This is an interactive cooking class with a small group. We'll make sure to guide you through each step so you have the knowledge to make these delicious momos at home whenever you want! You'll also get a recipe to take home.

After the class you can enjoy the garden with a drink and some momos, and take a look around the lovely historic house.

Hi, I'm Ngawang! I was born in Amdo, Tibet, in 1956. After the Chinese invasion in 1959 my parents and I escaped to India where I went to the Tibetan Children’s village, a refugee school in Dharamsala. In 1963, I was lucky enough to be brought to the Pestalozzi Children’s Village in Sussex. I grew up experiencing the unique taste of momos from my father, our house parents at the Pestalozzi and during my visits back to the Tibetan community in India. I am passionate about keeping my heritage and traditions alive. I now have three children and we regularly enjoy family momo feasts! My son also opened the Momo Shack serving traditional Tibetan food using our old family recipes.

I am hosting this event to support Tibet Relief Fund with my daughter Caroline, and we hope you enjoy it! 100% of your ticket price will support Tibetans in need.

Where you'll be

The beautiful Clementi House was the London home of Muzio Clementi (1752-1832), composer, pianist, and ‘Father of the Pianoforte’. One of the forte-pianos manufactured by Clementi’s company at that period is the front hall of Clementi House and tuned to a playable (if not performable) condition, with its original strings.

This is a unique opportunity to enjoy the surroundings of the historic house and garden in the heart of Kensington.

Fantastic experience that I'd highly recommend. Caroline & Ngawang were lovely & happy to share their experiences & expertise on making & eating Momo's. We all had a good laugh practicing the pleating techniques & there was so much food! The event was held on behalf of the Tibet Relief Fund, a charity that assists Tibetan refugees in India & Nepal. Caroline from the Fund was more than happy to give us an insight into the charity & the valuable work that they do.

It was really interesting to spend the afternoon with various people that were so passionate about the issues surrounding Tibet and the people in exile still to this day. We learnt how to make momos from a charming brother and sister duo who, with the aid of their Tibetan father, had grown up with Tibetan food as a staple. It was a good laugh trying to imitate their practiced hand at shaping our little dumplings. Nevertheless, was a beautiful afternoon outside in the garden of Clementi House eating DELICIOUS home made momos and sipping prosecco. Highly recommend supporting this cause in exchange for a unique culinary experience and fascinating conversation!
