What you'll do

You will make the dyeing of mexican wool from Chiapas and Quéretaro with mexican plants, depending on the season you can dye with bougainvillea, brazil stick, pericon, walnut shell among other leaves, seeds and barks and you will learn to dye with cochineal, an insect whose use to obtain colors such as red, purple, orange and carmine dates from prehispanic times. You will learn the process of preparing the fiber for dyeing and how to make natural colors that last forever in the wool. You will also know the applications of water chemistry and alchemy to prepare different colors. In the end you will make a sample of skeins of approximately 15 different colors.

Learn more about Paulina

Paulina

I am a textile artist graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts, for 4 years I've been dedicated to natural dyeing and textile art. I also teach in the textile area at a fashion school. I collaborate with designers who are interested in implementing sustainable and environmentally friendly techniques in their processes. I've shared this workshop in different institutions, museums and artistic centers in Mexico and other countries. My approach to natural dyeing starts at a young age, by observing the dyeing of wool from artisans in Chamula, Chiapas. I've colected and deepened in this technique with dyers masters from Mexico, as well as with textile artists from France, USA, Iceland, Scotland and Germany, some countries that I also visited to share this workshop and my personal artistic work.

The studio is inside of an old building located in an art space next to other studios, hidden between the hustle and bustle of the heart of the city.
