What you'll do

We'll enjoy some nature walking while birdwatching in a rural area in the mountains just outside Cali, in the protected surrounds of the Farallones National Park. Colombia has more bird species than any other country in the world with more than 1,930 species recorded and Cali is known as the 'City of the Birds' with more than 561 of those species. We'll walk attentively and birdwatch in the Ecological Reserve Kantú, located in Pichinde, in the foothills of the Farallones mountains and where the founding river of the city, el Rio Cali, is born. For those feeling brave, you can certainly take a refreshing dip at the end of our tour. With an altitude of 1,800m above sea level, the climate is perfect, the landscapes and views are incredible and there is an impressive biodiversity in plants, butterflies and birds - and all just an hour from the city! We'll complete a full walking tour, adding more or less walking depending on the group, have lunch in the village and then enjoy a plunge in the energizing river. I'm an experienced guide for this area, I know my Colombia well, both as a Colombian native and as a traveller. I'm always happy to offer help and information about places to visit in Colombia and help you get the most out of your travels here!

Learn more about Andrés

Andrés

I love nature - just being in the mountains to walk and observe is my passion! I graduated in Literature from the Javeriana University in Bogota but I've enjoyed swapping my professional path for activities in the great outdoors, especially hiking and birdwatching. Two years ago, I decided to dedicate time to learning about the bird species in the Andean region of Colombia, particularly those in the sub- and high-Andean forests, between 1,000m and 3,000m above sea level, the zone where the greatest diversity of species can be found. I love birds but I love the forests even more. I think that the deepest meaning behind an appreciation of nature lies in its protection and conservation for the future.

What's included

Food
A traditional Colombian lunch
Transport
Public or private transport, depending on preferences.

Where you'll be

Pichinde is part of the surrounding rural area of Cali in the Western mountain range of the Andes. It's easily accessible from the city and yet you'll see just how quickly the landscapes and ecosystems change completely as we leave the city. The area is a protected zone, considered part of the Farallones National Park since 1968, which has ensured conservation of its incredible biodiversity. Our hikes will be exploring the Kantú Reserve, 25 hectares of protected cloud forest with some awesome 360 views of the Valle del Cauca and the mountain ranges that surround it.
