What you'll do

Come spend a relaxing couple of hours learning the slow craft of spoon carving. This is not a race to the finish kind of class. We will go over knife safety, knife grips, and different kinds of knife strokes and practice on a stick before going onto your spoon blank. We axe out the spoon blanks before you arrive , so all you have to do is enjoy carving your spoon. There will be periodic breaks, and hand stretching as well as an axing demo by Erik so you can see how a spoon blank is made. This class will last three hours.
Other things to note
You will be carving a spoon from fresh green wood. We will be using knives and spoon hooks to make our spoon. Hand strength and an open mind to a new experience are helpful. Left handed welcome too.

I booked this for my husbands 30th birthday for him and his guy friends. They all really enjoyed the time together and the spoons they carved. They were all impressed and said it exceeded their expectations.

We were a family of three with a younger child 10 we weren’t sure if it will go ok, but Erick kept our daughter busy and taught her personally and gave her a easier spoon to work on, my daughter loved it and loved her spoon! We were all happy with our spoons and the time spent on learning and being together!! We will definitely go back and do another class another time.

The spoon carving class was terrific!!! We learn different carving techniques and then used them to create our own spoons. Erik is a great instructor. The class was fun and educational.

This class was SO FUN. It was a lot of work, but it didn't feel like it! Erik is so kind and so patient and a great teacher. We got this class suggested to us after we booked our stay and I am SO happy we signed up! I learned so much from Erik and wish I lived near by so I could attend his open workshop nights, he is such an interesting person and I will be booking a class with him next time I am in MN! I am in love with the spoon I made in class but even more in love with the spoon I purchased from Erik after class.

Great experience, and got some arm/hand exercise in. Erik is incredibly patient so this is wonderful for beginners who have never picked up a carving or hook knife. He is personable and gives clear demonstrations and repeats techniques and guidance. Best part- you end up with a unique and functional souvenir. If you are at all clumsy / non-dexterous, there is the possibility of knicks and scratches if you aren't careful and Erik is careful to stress safety first - highly recommended for adults who will pay attention to the safety instructions!
