What you'll do

We'll meet outside Guga S'thebe, a cultural centre run by the City of Cape Town in Langa township. We will show you around the centre and introduce you to other members of the local craft scene. Then you'll spend time together working with traditional South African beading techniques, and you'll make your very own choice of beaded accessory using traditional glass beads and up-cycled buttons.

Nontuthuzelo Mhloma, Khanyisiwe Plaatjies, Ivy Nhlapo and Noluthando Charles are members of Our Workshop. They all learned beading from women in their communities. Our extremely friendly hosts will no doubt entertain and amuse you while you get a chance to really engage with local experts for 2 hours, and make a beautiful bracelet, necklace and/or earrings (depending how fast you work!!).

Things to keep in mind

Cancellation policy

Any experience can be cancelled and fully refunded within 24 hours of purchase, or at least 7 days before the experience starts.

Guest requirements

Up to 15 guests ages 12 and up can attend. Parents may also bring children under 2 years of age.

More tips

In some South Africans' minds, the townships are still imagined to be dangerous places, but this is not true! A big part of the vision for Our Workshop is in fact to allow this fallacy to be overcome.
