What you'll do
For new or just-getting-started drone operators, Central FL is the perfect place to learn the basics of flying a drone! First, we will meet for Ground School which lasts approximately 1/2 hour. In Ground School, as a new operator you will learn the fundamentals of flight, how the aircraft works and regulations to be aware of as a recreational operator. Then, we will take a demo flight and finally you will get to take the controls and fly a drone yourself! We will typically fly in a wide open area to minimize distractions. You will learn how to properly preflight/checklist your drone before taking off, starting the motors, take off, basic maneuvering (elevation, yaw, pitch, roll and turns) and safely landing. We will introduce camera use as well however this course is focused on flight. We do offer an aerial photography course for more advanced remote pilots. This is an exciting experience so bring your questions and if you have your own drone, bring it too!
I am a FAA 14 CFR Part 107 certificated Remote Pilot as well as a contributor to AOPA Drone News, General Aviation News and Dronelife magazine. I have been teaching technology courses for more than 15 years. I have created and led courses for individuals and small groups as well as Fortune 500 teams and legal professionals across the U.S. My personal interest in advanced aviation led to the formation of drone (UAS) courses for newer remote operators to learn the correct way to begin flying. Understanding regulations, flight tips and other elements will make you a better drone pilot!

This activity offers great fun and introduces new and novice remote pilots to the world of drones. This is an adult oriented activity due to the important nature of regulated aircraft operation.
