What you'll do

Potter's wheel experience On arrival you'll be offered a warm welcome and a nice cuppa. Once we've had a chat and you've met your fellow potters (small friendly groups ensure plenty of individual attention) you'll be treated to a potter's wheel demonstration from your professional potter. Then its down to business! You'll each take a turn to throw a pot on the wheel. Needless to say, the activity makes for a fab spectator sport so you'll have great fun watching each other wrestling the spinning mud! You’ll have a professional potter wheel side through out the experience to gently guide you through the five easy steps to making a clay pot on the potter's wheel. Once you all have a pot to show for your efforts, you'll paint your masterpiece there and then with coloured underglazes. The whole experience lasts between 1.5hrs and 2hrs. However, some potters really get into their painting and can take an extra 1/2 hour to finish. You wont be able to take your creation away on the day, it will need to dry thoroughly before it goes in the kiln. Your pot will be fired twice, glazed and available for collection from the Pottery approx. 4-6 weeks later. P+P can be arranged at £5 per pot.

Your hosts

Eastnor Pottery & The Flying Potter was established by myself Jon Williams and wife Sarah in 1994. We met at art-school in the early 90's and graduated with BA Hons in Ceramics....and a burning ambition to make pottery! Our studio serves as a creative space where we produce not only individual pots and works of ceramic art, but share our passion and enthusiasm for clay with others. We have a combined experience of over 40 years working with adults, young people and children from our idyllic Herefordshire studio and in other community, educational and business settings all over the UK.
