What you'll do

How about spending a relaxing morning packed with well-being activities? We tend to believe that tea has always been around in Japan but did you know that it was actually brought back to Uji from China by Zen Buddhists monks 800 years ago? Uji is located merely 15 minutes aways by train from Kyoto and boasts a resort town feel making it an ideal place for you to take a healthy break. First meet your guide who takes you to one of Uji oldest tea shop. There, the tea master shows you how you can create the famous Matcha green tea by yourself. Uji boasts the most flavourful tea leaves of the region and after just a few turns of the stone mill you can see the precious green powder coming out, fresh and ready to be enjoyed. Of course, such sacred beverage must be accompanied with a delicate japanese sweet. Now that we have flushed out the toxins from our body with green tea we are ready to purify our minds at the local zen temple. There, the head monk gives us an introduction to the zazen meditation practice. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city center, tucked away in this ancient monastery, we let our minds drift away at the sounds of bells and the fragrance of incense.
