What you'll do

We will meet at Nomad's Land for introductions and a restroom stop after your drive to get here. Leave your car in our safe on-site parking area, I will provide transport for the day. We kick off the day with a Betty's Bay 'must-do' - we pay a visit to the African penguin colony at Stony Point. Walking along the boardwalk, I will teach you about the penguins and other animals at and show you the useful edible and medicinal plants growing in the area. Our next stop is the 'supermarket of the sea' - the tide and sea conditions will determine the spot. I will point out all the edibles on land and in the rock pools and teach you about their cullinary uses and how to sustainably and legally harvest food from the sea. After foraging in the rock pool we will take our harvest back to Nomad's Land for lunch preparation. Learn how to make your own perriwinkle 'frikkadels' and sesame sea lettuce crisps on the fire and get some 'braai master' secrets. Lunch will include your own creations and line fish prepared on the fire served with garden salad and fire bread and will be the 'formal' end of the activities, but you may extend your visit with a swim or round of mini-golf.

Ronel

I am in love with the sea, seafood, foraging, nature and my home town Betty's Bay. Sharing my passion for life with others combined with a natural flair for entertaining people led me to a career in hospitality for the last 20 years and landed me a spot as a contestant on two TV reality cooking competitions - 'The Ultimate Braai Master' (season 1) and KykNet Kokkedoor (season 2). I own a co-living/co-working accommodation and Experience venue called 'Nomad's Land' and I am a registered tourist guide.
