What you'll do
Upon arrival and introductions are complete, you will receive a quick safety brief and kit check. Guests are requested to be properly attired, Trail shoes, and lightweight running clothing is preferred as is a lightweight running jacket. This makes for a much more comfortable experience. Once a kit check is complete it’s off into the legendary Dartmoor National Park, heading out of of the town on one of many of the tracks leading to open moorland at a pace to suit the group. Dartmoor has many beautiful vistas and landmarks and our run will take in granite tors, ancient stone crosses, historic settlements, and evidence of our industrial heritage. All of which will be accompanied by a detailed narration from your guide. However, this is not just a sight seeing run but also a lesson in how to get the best out of your trail running. Colin will show you how to run efficiently and safely over a variety of terrain with advice on foot placement, body position and pace. On route there will be ample opportunity for photo stops, breaks and questions. On completion of the run it’s back for a well earned drink and refreshments in one of the local cafes or bars, and a chance to debrief.
Colin has been a qualified Mountain Leader since 2008. He has completed many of the top fell races, including the self-navigating UK Mountain Trail in the Lake District, two Bob Graham rounds, the 105 mile Ultra Trail Du Mont Blanc in Europe and numerous Mountain Marathons which involve running and navigating in remote areas over two days. He has an in-depth knowledge of Dartmoor as a runner, walker and as a former Royal Marine, instructing recruits.

Where you'll be
Our back drop is Dartmoor prison, deep in the middle of the moor, built by the Napoleonic POWS in the late 18th Centuary. This will be our back drop and is a haunting place. We will also visit Nuns Cross, an ancient granite cross, one of many dotted around the Moor on the Abbots way. Under it flows a man made leat which we follow to an aqueduct, before climbing one of the many tors. All of this area is my office, gym and sanctuary.
