We thought this was a really unique and informative experience. Our guide, Alex, was extremely knowledgeable and taught us so much about this fascinating piece of Romania’s history. The museum was like stepping into a time capsule and we loved being able to handle and inspect any objects that interested us. I left feeling like a had a new understanding of Bucharest and the Romanian people.

We were for ladies that can honestly say it was one of the best excursions we have done over our month in eastern Europe. Taking the subway to this non-touristy part of town was a great start. Alex, our historian and guide has studied abroad and can therefore provide a unique east west perspective. The apartment you will visit is delightful while the experiences of past times were sometimes brutal and never minimized. There are even video clips on a TV from the 50s to further authenticate your experience

This was a great experience which I highly recommend. It was small and intimate. Much more personal and informative than the larger tours I’ve been on here. Wonderful opportunity to get a deeper and more meaningful understanding of recent history in this complex and lovely country.

This has been a great experience! Alex, our guide, was very knowledgeable and nice too. The group I was on included people who lived under Communism and who did not, also people who lived in Romania and people who did not. I can tell with reasonable certainty that all enjoyed the tour, learned new things, and were inspired to share personal experiences related to what we learned on the tour. I strongly recommend the tour!

Book this tour if you want a fascinating and very personal glimpse of life in communist Bucharest in the 1970s and 1980s. Our guide David made the lives of the family whose flat we visited come alive and put a face on the hardships faced by the citizenry during these times. We were encouraged to handle the household items and sit on the furniture. Thanks for this unique experience and furthering my understanding of life in trying times.
