What you'll do

We will send our friendly driver to pick you up and bring you to Meru. Firstly we will take you on a short walk in our beautiful village, to see and to get the feel of a real Cambodian village. There are lots of trees, greenery, and only a few houses as we are in the Apsara protected zone. Aside from a great cook, I'm also an excellent animal and critter spotter! When we return from the walk we will freshen up with an iced lemongrass tea, made from lemongrass grown in our garden. We will then start with the food preparation, you can relax and watch with a cold drink, or get involved as much as you want! We will prepare three dishes, a starter, main and a local dessert. I will explain as much as I can as we go along and also offer possible alternative ingredients if you choose to replicate the dishes when you get home. When the food is ready, you can relax in one of the beautiful dining areas at Meru, and we will serve you your delicious dishes! We are also happy to share some interesting plating-up ideas, to impress your friends! After you have finished your meal, we have time for a friendly chat, before our tuktuk driver will take you back to town

Learn more about Dean & Ada

Dean & Ada

My name is Ada, I am Cambodian, a food lover (especially Khmer food!) and I'm told, I am an excellent cook! I have travelled to Australia to teach about Khmer Cuisine to small groups and also to share my family recipes. I used to operate a small restaurant with my family, but now I take great pleasure in preparing delicious meals based on family recipes at our villa, Meru Asia. When I was younger, I can remember preparing food with my mum and my grandma and loving the smells, tastes and sounds of my country's cuisine. I love to share this with others... We only prepare meals for guests staying at Meru, and Airbnb Experience guests. We keep to small groups to ensure a hands on, interactive experience. There is no menu, so you don't need to choose! I simply use the best and freshest organic, local produce available from our local market.

Where you'll be

The village walk takes place in Phum Kveen - you will certainly not see another foreigner here! Our Village Walk, talk, Cook, Eat takes place at Meru Asia Retreat - this is not open to the general public but only Meru and Airbnb experiences guests. It’s great for families as we have a pool table, hammocks and a treehouse - so there are plenty of options to entertain the kids, if they don’t want to cook!
