What you'll do

“Forage your 5-a-day for free & make your own bespoke herb tea!”
Put on your walking shoes & come exploring the local wild plants of the Peak District. We will learn medicinal, culinary & other uses for many of the plants we find, brought to life with history, Folk-lore & anecdotes. Be prepared for the world to look a little different when you return, since you will probably be astonished just how interesting so many of our common wild plants are!
These Herb Walks are great for couples & private groups. They are relaxed & gentle, normally lasting about 3 hours, with plenty of time to stop & get to know the plants, including tasting & making tea with them where appropriate!
Our meeting point is next to the much loved Grindleford Station Cafe, with regular trains from Sheffield & Manchester.
Grindleford is surrounded by amazing walks, with Padley Gorge woodland river, Padley Chapel, & Bolehill Quarry’s magical oak & birch woodlands. We will be spoiled for choice which way to go & can decide together!
If you would like a time or date that isn’t shown, please contact me, it can often be arranged. Our meeting point may also be flexible for private bookings. Thank you!

COVID UPDATE: If you would like to make a wild herb tea, please bring your own flask of boiling water. Guests are required to keep 2 meters apart from anyone who is not “in their social bubble”.

I am a qualified & experienced Medical Herbalist, with a BSc. Hons in Herbal Medicine. I won the National Institute of Medical Herbalists "Dorothy Carole Award for Best Final Clinical Exam" in 2016. I have lived in the Hope Valley, Derbyshire for over 20 years, and have always spent a lot of time walking dogs & foraging. I have a profound understanding of plants, having also also been a gardener & created my own Forest Garden.
I have a BA in Modern Languages, & enjoy researching the history & folk lore of our local wild plants. I also practice Equine Facilitated Learning, & am a beekeeper.

Where you'll be

Grindleford is a great place for autumn & winter walking. Spoilt for choice, we can follow the river up Padley Gorge, Walk to Padley Chapel & the ruins of Padley Manor, or head up into the silver birch woodlands with views over the Valley....
We finish our walk at Grindleford Station Cafe, where an open fire burns through the winter months, and its chips & huge all day breakfasts (with vegetarian options) are second to none!

Anna is very knowledgeable in herbs and very amiable. The tour was fun and personalised. We had a good chat about usage of natural product in drugs. The tour ended with a warm herbal tea and a vegan chocolate which were made by Anna. The walk was fantastic, with some beautiful scenery, passing some quarry and overlooking the dale. I really enjoyed the walk and would love to join Anna for another walk.

Anna showed us plants from an angle neither me nor my friend had known before. Plants that, as a gardener, I have come across and often treated as weeds, turn out to have powerful hidden properties. Anna is very knowledgeable, passionate and excellent at communicating that passion about herbs and the secret life of plants around us. She makes a great team with her dog Pepper and together they gave us a memorable afternoon's walk in the Derbyshire hills.

Our afternoon with Anna surpassed our expectations. Anna was really friendly, generous with her time and extremely knowledgeable. We would recommend this experience to anybody who is wanting to know more about herbal remedies or the Grindleford area. We are already thinking about meeting up with Anna and Pepper the dog again. Thanks Anna, from Emma, Nova and Di xxx

Anna has a real passion for the planet, she has a wealth of knowledge and opened our eyes to the gifts that nature provides us. Anna wants to make sure that each guests gets the most out of the experience and will always put the needs of her gorup and what they want to get out of it first. The walk is lovely, we chose to go through the woods which was really magical and beautiful. We stop throuhout the walk for Anna to explain and tell us the medical properties of the herbs which is such so fascinating. Would highly recommend if anyone is in the area and is looking for something that will help you connect to nature.
