What you'll do

You will experience one of the rarest and most biodiverse habitats in the US, a pitcher plant savanna. The area we will visit is open to the public but requires a knowledgeable guide to truly appreciate. We will meet at my home in midtown Mobile, have a brief orientation, then caravan about 45 minutes to our site. At the preserve, we will wander at will through the area, while I tell the story of this significant natural habitat, for 2-3 hours (time is flexible according to guests' interest) and then return to Mobile in early afternoon. Pine savannas are natural wildflower gardens with sparse trees due to their wetland soils. I will give you my expert's perspective as we view, interpret, and explain the plants, animals, and ecological processes of these beautiful, rare, and important areas. For insurance reasons we will travel in separate cars or I will join you in yours, your choice.
