What you'll do

In our knowledge, the first ever London bookshop holiday experience, we welcome you to play-bookshop for one or more days. We'll give you some training in how we run the shop, and advice on how to open your own venture. You will be shown how we value and price books, and told the different ways we sell stock. We will also tell you of scams to avoid, customers that are not all they seem, but also hidden benefits and windfalls that a bookshop attracts. An Iphone and WiFi will be provided, and you’ll be able to post on Twitter and social media as the bookshop! A truly unique holiday experience, and you’re free to record videos/pictures to upload to social media.
This is an experience holiday for between one and three people. We’ll tell you the various places to source books, how to deal with unsold stock, and ways to introduce different revenue streams. We offer you the chance to experience working life in a London neighbourhood, and you will see a side to London that even few Londoners know. We have omitted the accommodation option as a default, as some will already have contacts in London or live close enough to travel in

Mark is super friendly and knows everything there is to know about running a bookshop in a small pocket of London. He’s keen to pass on his experience and passion and will make anyone who comes to visit feel very at home.

Mark was an excellently experience host. I thoroughly enjoyed my day at the bookshop - I found Mark structured the day very well, without it being too rigid. He provided salient and applicable information especially if you are looking to start up your own bookselling business. My favourite part of the day was being able to choose one of the shelves on the window display... which led to a sale not too long after! Such a thrill :) I also loved hearing Mark’s story and the bookshop truly is a labour of love. An unforgettable experience!

It was a great experience, very interesting and Mark was such a nice person. It’s nice to be immersed in someone else’s life for a day and I’d like to thank Mark for sharing it with me and my mum. Very thoughtful gift at the end too

Mark's run a London book store for a day is a real treat. A fabulous way to learn about how to select and sell books. It was fun getting to sort books that you think would sell and also do a book display for the window, as well as serve customers. Highly recommended for anyone who loves books and wants to learn more about the practical aspects of running a book store.

My sister and I have always dreamed of running a bookshop and often played libraries when we were little. Sadly this is never going to become a permanent reality but for one magical day Mark enabled us to live the dream. From designing our own window display, chatting to customers about authors or pressing the buttons on the till this was an amazing day and I would highly recommend this for anyone who loves books!
