What you'll do

Join me on a snow hike through the beautiful frozen forests and rivers of the Mt. Gassan Geopark! We will be using snow shoes that will allow us to walk on extremely deep snow and enjoy the stunning white scenery of a landscape blanketed by over 20 feet of powder. Starting from a mountain lodge that serves as a center for outdoor sports year-round, we will make our way up to a mountain look out point with an expansive view of the snow covered valley and mountains surrounding Mt. Gassan. We will then return to the lodge where we will prepare and eat lunch together. You also have the option to soak in the lodge's hot spring bath!

I am the co-founder of The Hidden Japan, a promotional company here in Yamagata that is dedicated to putting the countryside charm of the Tohoku Region on the map for international tourists visiting Japan. I have lived in Tokyo but was ultimately drawn to Northern Japan for the pristine nature, warmhearted communities, and truly genuine people here who have helped me make a life here in Sakata City. My mission is to share all that I have discovered and come to love here in Tohoku with visitors to this wonderful and yet undiscovered region.

Keep an eye on the weather! If there is a snow storm I will arrange a safe alternative attraction that will be just as fun for us to enjoy. We can plan it together, this town has much to offer.
