What you'll do

After collecting from your room we meet Lorenzo and Tony on the dock in San Pedro. These are the "new" generation of the oldest fishing family on the island. We have coffee and juice on the dock while they explain the days activities and regale you with stories of what a fisherman's life in the Caribbean was truly like! From there we cast hand nets for a few bait fish. Not as easy as it looks but with Lorenzo's expert help you will soon be a pro! These are very important for our next stop - Conch Graveyard. An outstanding example of collaboration between fisherman and tourism, thousands of Conch shells have been used to create an artificial reef. We snorkel this reef with it's myriad of marine animals and feed the resident turtles (with our bait fish of course!). On to our next stop with Lorenzo explaining how the fishing community was responsible for the creation of a world renown site - Shark Ray Alley. Here you snorkel with a massive community of Nurse Sharks. Being so close to these amazing sharks is mind altering! Season depending you will get to dive for conch and taught how to prepare them or check out Lorenzo's lobster pots before heading back. Departs 08.30, Returns 2.00pm

Hi, I'm Frank an Airbnb Superhost and a lover of the ocean, having spent most of my life in or on the ocean in many different parts of the world, from Africa to Asia to Central America. I am an avid diver and have been actively involved in Marine Conservation worldwide. From hosting reef surveys for the University of South Australia to Community Impact Education in Cambodia, I have experienced first hand both the positive and negative effects of tourism on the ocean and the people who depend on that same ocean for their livelihood.
