What you'll do

Create your very own decorative lino block. The workshop will introduce you to the essential skills required to translate a drawing into a repeat pattern. You will be shown how to carve your block, mix a colour, inking your block and printing a pattern onto fabric and papers.

By the end of the workshop you will have created a range of hand printed fabric and paper to make into wrapping paper, cushions, wash bags or framed pieces. Our aim of this workshop is to provide you with skills you can take away and develop further.

Had a fantastic afternoon with Dena learning how to linocut print. From the start Dena was very welcoming, made us lots of tea and taught us a great skill which we can take home with us! Cutting the lino was totally absorbing and satisfying, and Dena was patient and helpful throughout. Her instruction was clear and the lesson well thought out, it could suit someone of any age or experience.

We had an unforgettable experience of working with a real expert, in a studio of top class equipment and well-thought out layout, which made the time pass like a flash. Close supervision (we were a group of two) and excellent teaching made this something I will always remember

‘I’ll put the kettle on’ was Dena’s response when I messaged her to explain we were running a bit late. Perfect! Not only is she friendly but she also makes tea. Dena greeted us warmly upon our (late) arrival at Kiwi Studio. The space is bright and clean with a variety of inspiring work on display - a professional and inviting workspace. We said our hellos, Dena went through health and safety details and then we got to work. My partner and I come from quite different backgrounds, I work in the arts and he works outdoors. Any concerns about him not enjoying the experience as much as I would were soon dispelled. Dena was super helpful with his design ideas and before long he was completely absorbed in his lino cutting. In fact, he even had time to make a second! Needless to say we came away with lots of prints ... that’s Christmas sorted then! During the course we chatted over various subjects, about arty things, family things, work etc. We all had a giggle and the time flew by. I would also say that this course is suitable for those who already have lino cutting experience, not just the beginners. Denas input was more than just practice, her ideas and way of looking at things were super inspiring. All in all we had a brilliant time - the morning left us feeling energised and somewhat of a creative superhero. We straight away went to the arts cafe Dena suggested, had a yummy lunch and stocked up on some (very reasonably priced) Lino supplies. Thank you Dena. What a fantastic experience. I can’t recommend it enough.
