What you'll do

First, you'll be welcomed into the park and we'll do some brief icebreaker activities so that all participants can know one another a little bit. Next, we'll discuss some background information about both chocolate and mindfulness meditation (two things which go together surprisingly well!) You'll learn... --The history and many health benefits of dark chocolate --How to discern good-quality chocolate --The history of how mindfulness evolved--what did "mindfulness" mean 2500 years ago, and what does it mean today? Which definition is more helpful for you? --Differing benefits and effects of various types of mindfulness meditation practices --An introduction to the how-to of a few meditation techniques, plus a sample meditation session Finally, we'll combine the two with a super-mindful chocolate tasting (there will be plenty of chocolate!) followed by a reflection on your experiences. There will be a short quiz at the end of the experience...with tasty prizes!

I grew up in a chocolate factory as well as worked as a chocolate tour guide in Australia, and have been passionate about chocolate ever since. I also studied mindfulness and meditation from a scholarly standpoint during university and have conducted my own research as well. I enjoy organizing weekly meditation groups wherever I live and really enjoy combining chocolate and mindfulness! This workshop has already been conducted at festivals, in my home, and more.

Food
Good-quality dark chocolate from a local chocolate shop will be provided, along with a vegan trail mix cookie.

Where you'll be

We will conduct the workshop in North Straub Park, a beautiful location on the water in downtown St. Pete. It's a perfect, quiet place for contemplation and meditation, with lots of birdsong and other sounds of nature. In case of rain, the workshop will be held inside Craft Kafe on Central Avenue instead.
