About your host

I’ve worked in the Peak District at Moors for the Future Partnership for the last 5 years. During this time I’ve helped to monitor the conditions of our upland peat landscape, as well as communicated about the many benefits which peatlands provide to us. What we’ll do

You will be doing your bit to help combat climate change by heading off the beaten track to plant vital sphagnum moss on the majestic moors of the Peak District National Park. On an exclusive guided walk, you’ll learn more about how moors, or ‘peatlands’ play a very special role in your life and the huge benefits they bring – as you walk or wobble across one! Enjoy stunning scenery and keep…

What else you should know

The guided walk will be fairly strenuous so you will need to have a good level of fitness to fully enjoy and immerse yourself in the experience. Mobile phone signal is very poor in the area.

What I’ll provide

Equipment
Sphagnum moss plug plants for you to plant on the moors and sphagnum moss planting equipment for you to borrow

What to bring

Bring along your own refreshments including any drinks or snacks
Some terrain may be uneven and it will likely be very wet underfoot, so it is essential to bring along sturdy walking boots
The Peak District weather isn’t always blue skies and sunshine! Waterproof jacket, trousers, toasty layers of clothing, gloves and hats are essential. Unfortunately if you do not come prepared, we won’t be able to take you on the guided walk.

Where you'll be

We will visit an area called Black Hill. We will walk through time as you see the transformation into a green and pleasant land that Black Hill has become. We will step onto the infamous Pennine Way, but the majority of the experience will take place on a route less travelled. Black Hill lies within the Peak District National Park which is a stunning and iconic landscape.
