What you'll do

Enjoy the chance to observe ancestral craft techniques & connect with the makers & artisans behind the distinctive Berber rugs. You will spend the day in the traditional earth-made Berber villages of the High Atlas Mountains, 1300 metres above sea level, tucked away from regular tourist routes.

Guests should plan to arrive in Asni by 10:00am, where I will pick you up & drive you first to Tamgounssi village to meet our local artisans & teachers working on the traditional wooden looms at our Craft Centre. I will then show you how local bread ‘khobz’ is made in traditional clay ovens by Malika & Mina - another of our initiatives to support the local community!

A short drive across the breathtakingly beautiful valley then takes us to one of the oldest Berber villages, Tansghart, where you will visit our craft centres for woodwork & tailoring. Here we will prepare your traditional tagine lunch & eat al fresco to take in the spectacular scenery - you will have time to immerse yourself in the surroundings, whilst chatting to the artisans & teachers.
Traditional Berber mint tea & pastries will refresh you for the drive back to your pick up point at about 4pm.

We adhere to all COVID health & safety measures - you will be asked to sanitise hands & have your temperature taken on arrival at the centres. Face masks are compulsory indoors.

About the organisation: Eve Branson Foundation

The mission of the Eve Branson Foundation is to enrich the lives of people in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. We achieve this through the provision of craft centres where young people can access training programmes to learn traditional skills such as woodworking, embroidery, tailoring, weaving & rug-making. We support community projects such as free dental clinics & English tuition.

This is a social impact experience where 100% of what you pay for this experience goes to Eve Branson Foundation.

Where you'll be

We will be in the High Atlas Mountains for the day, visiting craft centres in the ancient Berber villages of Tamgounssi & Tansghart, tucked away from the tourist trails. You will enjoy a traditional Berber tagine, as well as savour the Berber mint tea ritual & of course, observe ancient Berber crafts at our centres & enjoy local interactions with the artisans - Anything you buy from our centres goes straight to our artisans!

It was a very interesting experience, but diferent than in description, we only observed activities of people in craft center but do nothing ourselves. Probably starting from February all will be like in description. The place is really off the normal tourist tracts so you feel that nothing is artifical and you are close to the people. Fundation is making a great job for these villagers and we was happy to be a part of this experience.

What a great day with Zoubair. It was fun to go to the mountains and meet the people in the village. Lunch was lovely and our interactions with everyone taught me new things. I highly recommend this!

I really loved our day in Asni. Zoubair was very hospitable. It was a nice break to get out of the city and see some of the mountain life. I enjoyed meeting the women and learning about their work.

The food was great and Zoubair takes great care of you and shares many Moroccan insights during this very private personal tour

The idea behind this tour is good. We were interested to find out more about the Berber culture and the foundation projects. But there was not much information given. We did visit the projects and had free time to interact with people and try things. But it felt a bit awkward because the guide left us alone with the local people and we could not really communicate in French or English. It would have been great to have someone with us explaining how the people live and how the projects work. Part of the time we spent in a Luxury Hotel. It was really nice but off topic. All in all, with some improvements (especially on the interaction and communication part) this tour could get really insightful.

My husband and I had a lovely day with Zoubair learning about and seeing the Eve Branson Foundation in person. Everyone we met was welcoming and the day was picture perfect - from the scenery of the drive to our destinations, the fantastic lunch and seeing the artisans work in person. A really interesting day.
