What you'll do

You're going to learn more about the history of Charleston on this tour than on any other tour in town. From modern-day Charleston, to how the city came to be, even mind-blowing facts about everything from Slavery to Santa Clause.

But we start by discussing what's important to you about history. What you like, and what you hope to learn. This allows us to focus the conversation where you want.

I use a story format and I ask you a lot of questions to spur discussion. I'll walk you down the path of Charleston in a funny, interesting, sometimes irreverent way. I'm not going to sugar-coat anything, show you old pictures, or drone on about names and dates you won't remember. My job is to give you the facts and let you make your own informed decisions about history.

We'll start at Waterfront Park and head south to the famous Charleston battery. We'll see some amazing sights and have some fascinating discussions about the very colorful history of the early fort of Charles Towne.

When we’re finished we’ll end up very close to where we started, none the worse for wear, and the proud new owners of the most valuable souvenir you can take home from your trip – knowledge.

Please keep in mind, the tour will last about 2.5 hours, but at the end, I'll give you my list of the best local's places to eat and drink in Charleston....it won't disappoint. :)

So, let's get started ya'll

They call me Cooper. Passion is the only word to describe how I feel about the rich history of Charleston.

I’m a southern boy, and I talk a little funny - but don't let that fool ya. I have 3 college degrees. When I'm not teaching history, I'm studying it. I’m also one of a small handful of people licensed by the city to take people on tours.

My passion for history, the love of a smaller intimate teaching experience, and the historic detail I get to show you is why I love doing what I do!

So come on now Ya'll ... let's go talk about Charleston!

Where you'll be

On our stroll through Charleston’s Historic District, we’ll see many homes from before the revolutionary war. We’ll stand under the trees where 30 pirates were hung, and we’ll hold in our hands the same door knob that George Washington held. But only on this Airbnb experience will you see a famous piece of Paris mounted on the roof of a house.

Cooper was super knowledgeable and friendly! He adapted the tour to the group‘s interest and the 2.5hrs flew by. I learnt a lot about Charleston’s history, society, and architecture and also got to see a good chunk of historic downtown. At the end of the tour, Cooper gave us a card of recommendations for locally-loved restaurant and bars.
