What you'll do

Private lesson, offered in English (hard to find here) to those with basic-to-no flamenco guitar experience, you will learn to play the basic rhythm to which the hearts of Jerezanos beat--the Buleria. This is the sound of Jerez! Or if you want, the mother of all flamenco--the Solea. Or the truly uniquely Jerezano Zambombas--songs of Christmas, flamenco style.

Welcome any one over 10 years old. A travel companion is welcome to observe.

I will show you how to play the basic rhythm (compas) for accompanying singers/dancers. We will focus on the rhythm, the structure and a simple melodic passage to complete a verse, and what makes them Jerezano.

We will share some tapas, sherry (if you drink and of age) or other refreshments, while we play. If the weather is nice we can play on our rooftop terrace with an iconic church overlooking us. Then, I'll let you know where to go to experience flamenco "puro" (pure) show during your visit and, if you want, maybe join you too (if my duties as a father of two small children would allow it).

I will also share some local insights I have gathered about the local flamenco scene.
Other things to note
An open mind and heart and good humor ; ) And, oh, by the way, this flamenco learning session is for beginners--those with little-to-no flamenco guitar experience. See you soon.
Big Smile!

There's a song in every heart; yours and ours. I have been playing flamenco guitar since 1999, learning from several teachers and from different methods in the United States and in Spain, absorbing what works best and what does not, and teaching them to my students. To deepen my flamenco experience, in 2017, my wife and I moved our family with 2 kids to Jerez de la Frontera--the cradle of a specific flamenco style called Bulerias and Zambombas (Christmas songs performed in the flamenco style which is unique to Jerez). As a music producer, I have also recorded performances by local flamencos.

Where you'll be

We will conduct our flamenco session in our apartment in the city center, in the heart of Barrio San Miguel--one of the two neighborhoods in Jerez with strong flamenco traditions. If the weather is nice we can have our session on our rooftop terrace, with the iconic church (Iglesia de San Miguel) right behind us. Then, as an option, I can join you to see flamenco puro that day (if my duties as a father of two small children would permit).

Six and his family welcome you into their home for this guitar lesson/experience. They had even prepared some drinks and local tapas for us to enjoy while I had my tuition. Six is very flexible in his style which I appreciated immensely coming from a rock/blues background. Undoing years of bad habits isn't easy but Six helped with the start of that journey for me. I came away with some video reference from the session that I will need as I practice the many areas that he introduced me to. Many thanks Six.

Six was a lovely man and my friend and I - total beginners who’d never picked up a guitar before - really enjoyed our experience. The little feast prepared and tasting of a kind of sherry i’d never had before plus his brilliant playing and kindness / patience with our attempts to play two chords of a bulería. Great fun, unique, extremely approachable and such a beautiful square!!! One of Jerez’s most enchanting churches, educa i’d otherwise have missed. Thank you for this Six - highly recommend to everyone who comes to Jerez in English or Spanish. A unique perspective and my goodness can he play... 😊i’m inspired and so impressed - watching guitarists hands now in awe!
