What you'll do

Impressive view of the rainbow mountain glacier of the Andes mountain range, where this wonderful natural formation is located at 5030 meters above sea level. We started this activity inCusco city at 4 am in the morning by bus, going approximately 2 hours to the smoll comunite of Cusipata, where we have breakfast and then continue for 1 hour with the trip by bus and getting to the starting point of the walk which is at 4400 meters above sea level and we began to ascend slowly.
We walk approximately 3 hours and reach the view point which is at 5030 meters above sea level from where you have a beautiful view of the mountain and the landscape of the red valley due to the large amount of minerals found in the area. and after this. and a wonderful view of the snowy mountain Ausangate which summit is at 6271 meters above sea level and the rainbow mountain, we return descending for about 1 hour and half to the starting point of the hike to board the bus and go to the lunch place in Cusipata and then we return to Cusco city arriving approximately at 4 pm
Other things to note
the walk we are doing between 4400 meters above sea level until 5030 and it is possible that we have some altitude sickness like soroche, or headache, thatswhy we are carring the oxygen and medicine for the altitude.

I can not recommend this experience enough. Ruben was thoughtful and kind and the very definition of salt of the earth. Rainbow mountain and the surrounding area are absolutely jaw dropping and the trip overall was unforgettable.

This experience was one of the best experiences we could have hoped for in our trip to Peru. Even before booking, I had a couple of questions and he answered them promptly and professionally. It started early when he picked us up from our hotel. On the drive, he stopped at the best bread shop in all of Cusco for our breakfast. We had a quick breakfast and off we went. He even packed a bag of snacks and goodies. The drive was beautiful, as well as the walk. It is a long and grueling 3 hour hike well above the altitude I'm used to, but he made it easy, constantly attending to our needs, giving us motivation. I would not have been able to do this without Ruben, that's for sure. All along the way h discussed the history of the people in the town and of the mountain. When we got to the top, the view was breathtaking. He took pictures for us and helped in any way possible. We then headed back and grabbed a wonderfully prepared lunch. This was on par with Machu Picchu. I encourage everyone that is in Cusco or Peru to make a trip to Rainbow Mountain and have Ruben as your guide.

I went on the tour with William and he was wonderful. He was experienced and kind. The hike was truly breathtaking (both beautiful and literally hard to breathe on some parts). I felt like I was well cared for the whole time. Highly recommend!!

First, allow me to say that you must prepare for this excursion. Take anti altitude medication for 2 to 3 days, drink a lot of water, and dress for the cold and also for the heat. With that said, this excursion was beautiful and tough — but well worth it. You are driven 2 hours away for breakfast, and then another hour to the Rainbow Mountain entrance. From there you need to hike 1.5 to 2 hours (this is not easy without preparing). Alternatively you can get on a donkey for 60 soles ($20) each way. My husband and I are from New York and we have flat land. We were very sick after hiking toward Rainbow mountain. Then after hiking, you’re given lunch and driven back to your respective residence. Do not get scared about the difficulty. Just prepare for the altitude because you’re going to be 17 thousand feet in altitude so take it seriously. Other than that it’s your normal hike. My tour guide was very kind and patient. She really made this trip worthy and made us feel comforted.
