What you'll do
In this experience, you will try discharging indigo at my home. Dying is hard to control temperature, it usually done during the spring to the end of the summer, so we can't do it during the winter but I will show you how I dye with the pictures I took and my actual pieces. Then, let's try discharge. You will make a indigo dye handkerchief! I will show you how to do it first, then you try. It is very easy to make, so anyone can make it. Please enjoy various changes of indigo. After the workshop, let's have tea time with some Japanese sweet!
I love the color of indigo. I started indigo dyeing myself 5 yrs ago, and now I teach children indigo dyeing at elementary school. I produce more than 30 works a year and have sent them to exhibitions etc. The most I like about indigo is that not only it shows various changes in color depending on humidity and temperature, but also its changes depending on mind conditions. Also, the cultivation of indigo plants and indigo dyeing were actively carried out in this area. Since I knew it, I decided that I wanted more people to know the culture of indigo.
