What you'll do

We will start with a look at maps and other visuals of the region to give you a sense of the appellations, the notion of "terroir", and how the wines are classified here to offer a backdrop for the wine tastings.

Then we will head into the vineyards and through the charming wine villages to discover the nectar of Burgundy. A typical day will include 2 to 3 wine tastings at small family domaines, where you will taste an array of their wines, often with the winemaker themselves.

Between the visits we will be stopping in the vineyards to get a closer look at where some of the most famous and expensive wines in the world are grown. Learn about the viticultural methods specific to the region, and the origins of wine production here going back over 2000 years.

Like a great wine, balance is necessary! We can include visits to a medieval castle or a famous historical site, and indulge in visiting some of the local culinary delights to be found here, including cheese, chocolates and truffles.

And of course to fully understand Burgundy one should pair the wines with a delicious local meal... There is a cornucopia of great restaurants to choose from, depending on the style you prefer.

My diverse career in the wine world originated in California in the late 80s, which enticed me to spend an immersion year in Burgundy, now my permanent home. In 1999 I started Journeys in Wine, creating personalized itineraries for individuals and private, small groups of wine enthusiasts to discover this renowned wine region. Sharing the insider's knowledge of Burgundy I've gained is my passion, along with its wines and rich cultural heritage. Helping make the complexities of the region and its wines more understandable, approachable, and, most especially, more enjoyable for you is my mission!

Where you'll be

We will be going to small, family wineries that generally require an appointment to visit, and often need a translator. Among the 4000 producers in Burgundy it can be quite daunting to choose where to go. I have developed a network of wineries to visit who have very good wines with the option to purchase, and even ship them, to your home.

My husband and I really enjoyed our day with Kim. She was very friendly, accommodating to our requests and made every effort to make the day personalised and special for us. She very kindly booked us an amazing restaurant for lunch and even diner. I would highly recommend doing the wine tour with Kim as she really knows about the local wines and the area in great depth. We had a wonderful day and hope to spend another day with her when we return to the area.

I had an amazing day with Kim discovering Burgundy wines and would whole-heartedly recommend this to anyone else! Kim is a fabulous and knowledgeable host- with more than 30 years of extensive experience in the wine industry. We drank and tasted so much good wine (how many glasses is too much really?) and she also recommended a hearty lunch place for us to sample local cuisine. The domaines we visited during the day were all very intimate and personal and not the typical tourist-traps/overly-commercialised places. She also gave me on point recommendations on how to fill up my remaining days in Beaune. All in all, I had the best day ever and this wine tasting day trip was definitely my highlight during my short stay in Beaune. Thanks so much for everything Kim!

What a truly lovely experience! You can tell that Kim has much knowledge, love and passion for wine. My husband and I are novices when it comes to wine however Kim gave us a good amount of information in order to better navigate Burgandy wines. We visited three vineyards and had intimate tastings, tours and most importantly amazing wines! We are so happy we booked with Kim and would highly recommend her. We would definitely book again! Thanks Kim.
