Hi. i'm Ismail
i grew up in Marrakesh in a familly of artisans. my mother and sisters used to make leather babouches(traditionnal moroccan shoes). My father is a carpenter and a craftsman specialised in artisanal craft called Tazoukt.
after many attempts to learn My father's craft. i had to quit. being the first son. i had to study and take a different path. so i studied physics and ended up teaching astronmy.
watching my father aging made me realize that i still want to pour from his talent and share it, espicially because there's only a few craftsmen left doing this job.

This was a very interesting experience. Ismail’s dad showed me his craft. He speaks some French - so we were able to communicate somewhat - I speak a little French. He is very experienced in what he does. It was interesting to see exactly how they do the painted wood decorations that you see in the palaces and on furniture. It takes a steady hand and quite a bit of brush skill as well as quite a few years of experience to be as good as this teacher. I found it so relaxing to watch him paint. I have two lovely souvenirs of this experience, which I really appreciate. I highly recommend this experience.

Ismail's father is really talented and friendly. Unfortunately, we don't speak french, and since Ismail was not there to help, we couldn't communicate with him. It was still special, but would have been even better. The address given is wrong, ask the host for correction.

Ismail’s father is so incredibly talented in his art and he is clearly passionate about what he does. As a fair warning- Ismail’s father does not speak English, and no English speakers were available to translate for us, BUT we were able to communicate enough to complete the project, and he was a great teacher regardless of the language barrier. He is incredibly patient (even with those with no art abilities like myself), and is a master of his skill. He helped us compete a beautiful piece of art, and we shared some laughs. It was an overall wonderful experience at a great value, and I’m so glad I did this. He provided all of the materials, and was very helpful. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone I know visiting Marrakech! Thank you!!

Ismail’s father is quite the expert at painting! He demonstrated confidence, real passion and patience. The location was nice, on the rooftop of a Riad in the heart of Marrakech with nice views of the city. His father was kind and welcoming. He made us all tea and made sure we had the proper supplies needed throughout. Unfortunately he doesn’t speak English, and I had assumed there would be a translator, but luckily the other attendees speak Arabic & English, so they were able to translate for me. Nonetheless, he was very clear in his teachings by using gestures and demonstrations. In the end I was able to take a stencil and piece of wood painted home!
