What you'll do

We will cook together in my appartment in the beautiful southside of Cologne some very special local dishes. The "Halve Hahn" (word-for-word: half rooster) for example, is a typical dish from Cologne and you get it in every brewery. Spoiler: There's no chicken in it. I will tell you everything about this culinary missunderstanding and you will try some. The next dish is a classic brewery snack as well, the famous "Rievkooche", fried potatoe pancakes. In Cologne we eat them with home made applesauce and that's what we are going to do. During a cooking class in Cologne, you have to try the local beer, the Kölsch. I will prepare a little tasting. The final dish is the most famous dish from Cologne "Himmel un Ääd met Flönz". The translation would be "heaven and earth", which is mashed potatoes with caramalized apples (and onions). And "Flönz" is the typical black pudding from Cologne. After my Cooking Class you'll be a culinary Cologne-expert.

Learn more about Julia

Julia

Hey, my name is Julia and I eat and cook as a profession. Ten years ago I moved as a chef to Cologne. Meanwhile I work as a food journalist and a food stylist. Cologne is a unique city with unique traditons and delicacies. I know the city and the regional Rhineland cuisine like the back of my hand and I would love to show you that german cuisine is more than Brezel, Bratwurst and Sauerkraut.

What's included

Food
Please let me know, if you are a vegetarian or have any allergies.
Drinks
I prepare three different Kölsch-varieties and one brewed surprise.

Where you'll be

The cooking class is located in the pretty southside of Cologne, next to the medieval Severins-Gate, right above one of the oldest breweries of Cologne. Across from the brewerie, on the "Clodwigplatz" is during the advent season a lovely little christmas market.
