What you'll do

Oregon has 360 miles of coastline - that’s 360 miles of crabbing and clamming opportunity! Digging for Purple Varnish Bay clams is a simple and affordable activity that can include the whole family.
You will be guided by Randy & Kathy at low tide (time varies each day) to the clam beds of Siletz Bay where we will show you how to dig and gather your limit of Purple Varnish Clams. (The limit is 72 per person per day) This normally takes between 1 to 1.5 hours, and is easy to do for all age levels. The walk to the clam bed is easy to access. We will show you where to go and how to recognize where to dig, how deep to dig, and sizes to keep for tasty dishes! Upon completion, we will email you the links to our YouTube Channel where you will find instructions on cleaning, cooking and recipes. All tools will be provided on loan, or you can bring your own: shovels & buckets. You will need an Oregon Shellfish License if over 11 years old. Purchase them online: www.MYODFW.com or at BiMart in Lincoln City.

Randy and Kathy made sure to send us good directions about where to meet up for our experience because there had been a recent change. Me, my husband, my dad, and one of our friends attended. They distributed our buckets (Go Claminator!) and shovels, it was an easy walk to the clam beds, quick explanation about what to look for, how to get the clams, and it didn’t take too long for us to collect our limit. They helped us clean them afterward and we even got a snack. We all had a good time with our experience :)

This was a Fantastic activity. We had so much fun. Randy and Kathy gave wonderful guidance, a quick history on the clams we were hunting and provided help though out the excursion. We walked away with a cooler of clams and a lifelong skill. Highly Recommend.

Our experience with Randy and Kathy was great! They provided the gear we needed and were friendly and informative. Everything about the excursion itself was great, however, I was very disappointed to find out that they had put my email on their Herbalife email list without my consent. Herbalife is a multilevel marketing company that is financially predatory and operates like a pyramid scheme. Air b&b should not be used as a vehicle for recruitment for multilevel marketing.

Fun experience and sparked a new foraging hobby for me. It was all couples when I went, but this would be great for families as it is a very simple activity that kids could easily partake in.
