What you'll do

Your 3-hour "Paint a Snowy Landscape" experience will begin with your arrival at my rural home in the trees and rocks. I have ample free parking available for large or small or multiple vehicles. I will greet you in as you arrive and we will walk a short distance to my newly built artist's studio.
The room will be set-up and ready to go with chairs, tables, easels, brushes, palettes, aprons, and paints all in place. After a short introduction we will get down to work. You will be guided from start to finish in creating you painting. We will start by looking at several paintings which I have produced and some photos of trees draped with snow.
Painting a classic Canadian landscape painting of snow on evergreen trees will be your journey today. In this Experience you will learn some basics of landscape painting as well as a methods of using acrylic paints.
You will paint your picture on a 12" by 16" canvas. I will demonstrate and explain each step, describing the ideas and reasons. The first step will be covering the canvas with a wash of colour and drawing lines with a paint brush. Then we fill in areas with base colours. Refining the colour, adding texture, detail will finish your own masterpiece
Other things to note
While not ideal for those with mobility issues, guests using a cane have managed the short walk around and up the steps to my studio.

From early on I was fascinated by the great art and artists of the past and the stories that their paintings reveal. Although developing my own skills and understanding I enrolled at the University of Guelph to study art and achieve my B.A. degree in fine art. Before becoming a professional teacher in 1989 I was an exhibiting artist garnering awards and showing in solo exhibitions. During my 25 years as a classroom educator with the Peel District School Board I continued to participate in art shows and develop my skills as an artist. Now, after retiring, I am a full time artist and educator working regularly in my newly built rural studio. My love of art keeps me exploring and refining my unique vision. I teach students in formal lessons as well in fun-filled party experiences.

Where you'll be

My Studio - my 600 square foot studio is an artist's workshop. It is a place where I go almost daily to create my paintings. The 16 foot ceiling rises high above you when you enter with many paintings on the wall.
Old Baldy - on your own you can visit this landmark either before of after creating your painting to enrich your experience and embrace the breath-taking view from the escarpment's edge. Enjoy the village of Kimberley for lunch.
