What you'll do

This one-day course will introduce you to the medieval craft of stained glass. You will choose from a selection of designs that are all achievable in a day. Your day will include tuition and all the materials needed to make a panel with a simple design approx 20cm square or a rectangle 20cm x 25cm. Classes are small - one or two people - so you get a lot of individual tuition and extra help if needed. By the end of the day you will have a beautiful leaded glass panel to take home. We start at 9am with an introduction to the day. You will then learn the basics of glass cutting before choosing a design and selecting your glass from a range of colours and textures to make your panel unique. After you have cut the glass pieces to fit the design I teach you how to use lead and solder to join the glass pieces together. To finish your piece you will learn to cement and polish to make your panel strong and water-tight. I aim to finish the day at 5 or 6pm. There will be refreshment breaks mid-morning and mid-afternoon and a light lunch around 1pm. I am an Airbnb Superhost and can accommodate up to four guests in two double rooms so you can make a weekend of it.

Learn more about Cathy

Cathy

I am a skilled stained glass artist and began learning my craft in 2004. I have studied with glass artists Amanda Moriarty, Milly Francis and Molly Meager and taken courses in fusing, engraving and glass painting. I recently retired from a career in local government and can now devote my time to developing my stained glass practice. I have been teaching one day courses for 4 years and really enjoy passing on my knowledge to others. My pupils say I am an informative and patient teacher. I would love to help you make something beautiful to take home and display.

Things to keep in mind

Cancellation policy

Any experience can be cancelled and fully refunded within 24 hours of purchase, or at least 7 days before the experience starts.

Communication policy

Always communicate through Airbnb. To protect your payment, never transfer money or communicate outside the Airbnb website or app.

Up to 2 guests ages 18 and up can attend. You do not need to have any prior experience of stained glass. You will need to stand for some of the processes though you will be able to sit and work at times if you need to.

Government ID

You’ll need to take a picture of yourself that matches the photo on your ID. This is so Airbnb can confirm who’s actually going on the experience. You’ll only have to do this once.

More tips

The course is not suitable for pregnant women and nursing mothers because it involves working with lead. We try to cater for dietary requirements where possible so please let us know in advance.
