What you'll do
This is a natural horsemanship clinic for all skill levels - beginner to advanced and covering various aspect of horsemanship and communication with the magnificent wild mustangs rounded up from US wilderness. Participants will work with mustangs and choose either a training or riding experience.
The training experience entails asking the horse to move left/right and forward/backward as well as changing speeds and stopping. First the horses will be moved using traditional rope halters. After gaining proficiency with ropes, we will move to liberty where we will move and control the 1000+ lb animals using ONLY our body language. No whips. No ropes. No equipment whatsoever.
The riding experience will focus on prepping horses and riders. Natural horsemanship doesn't use bits in the horse's mouth. Instead ropes will be tools used to control the horses first from the ground and then on horseback. The terrain vary for every rider and is based on the proficiency of the rider and communication with the animal.
Other things to note
All abilities are welcome! Safety is of paramount importance for the participants and animals. Sessions are uniquely tailored to the desires and abilities of the participants along with the willingness and communication with the mustangs. We always have a great time with the animals!

I'm a passionate equine lover experienced with horses, donkeys and mules. My specialty is taming wild mustangs using natural horsemanship methods. Natural horseman mimics how horses interact with other horses and uses those techniques to train.
I'm a 2 time winner of a wild mustang competition where trainers take wild horses who have never experienced humans and are given just 90 days to transform them into willing partners with humans.
I practice my craft on one of the largest ranches remaining in San Diego County with miles of trails and big open pastures where horses can be horses.

Where you'll be
The activity takes place on Hidden Oaks Ranch located in bucolic Valley Center - a rural city in north-east San Diego. It may be the largest horse ranch remaining in San Diego. It is 360 acres of nature with miles of trails and world class horse facilities plus a wide variety of domestic animals (donkeys, goats, sheep, cows, mules) and nature (deer, turkeys, coyotes) + a friendly pack of ranch dogs.

Had a wonderful time on Michael’s ranch! We did a mix of some riding and some training. Michael will tailor the experience to your skill and comfort level. All of the four-legged friends are an absolute delight. The ranch is somewhere between 30-50 min outside of San Diego proper depending on where you’re staying, and you’ll get the most value out of planning on staying the whole 2 hours.

If you haven’t booked I don’t know what you’re waiting for! This is truly a once in a lifetime experience!!! I wasn’t going to make it right on time but communicated with him and we worked it out. If it wasn’t for that I would of missed on such a unique experience.
My first time solo traveling and I was nervous, but once I got to meet Michael and his animals (horses, mules donkeys and dogs) I instantly felt good!
He is a really down to earth guy. His animals were all well behaved.
We started by learning the basics and how to direct them and in no time I was able to ride. We rode along his ranch and let me just tell you that for a minute I thought I was in paradise. The views of the hot sun between the mountains and the green grass on my left while riding Bailey and the sound of his dogs strolling on the side ughhh were just amazinggg!!
At the end I also got to help feed them. This is a very unique experience and you will not regret it. The views you’ll get to see while riding are breathtaking! I could go on and on but thank you for your time and for sharing your animals Michael!

This was a really unique experience.
Michael not only tailored it to our ability, but he explained to us everything that involves with training a horse.
He also took time to talk us through step by step how we could start to train our own horse and sent us a lot of information after the experience.
The location is exquisite and the trail just beautiful.
We will definitely do it again!
Thanks Michale and give Rose a hug for me
