What you'll do

Join us making delicious and beautiful Wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets.

This is a small-group experience where you can watch and learn my Wagashi making techniques up-close and try them yourself.

Your experience takes place at my small, quaint Wagashi shop located in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
You will be making 4 pieces of seasonally-inspired Nerikiri, a kind of Wagashi made of sweet white bean paste and mochi.

First, watch closely and learn while I demonstrate how to make Nerikiri, then it's your turn to try your hand at Wagashi making.

Delicately form the colored dough into various shapes by hand and carefully add lines with tools to perfectly portray the seasonal beauty of Japan.

Even if you don't have experience in making Japanese sweets, I will guide you through every step of the way, so don't worry!

Other things to note
*Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
*During this class, you will make Wagashi with 2 different seasonal motifs selected monthly by me (pictures of Wagashi are just sample)
*don’t have Additives, will last 2days if kept refrigerated.
*we prepared recipe (in JPN),feel free to have it.

As a professional, I've been making Wagashi sweets(Japanese sweets) for over 25 years.
I took over my father's Wagashi shop in Shinjuku.

My goal is to create "dreamy" Wagashi sweets" that delight not only people's palates, but also their eyes with their sophisticated beauty.

I also regularly host classes to let Tokyo people experience firsthand the fun of making beautifully-detailed Wagashi sweets.
And plus, many people from abroad have also enjoyed my classes, including international star "Marion Cotillard"!

Where you'll be

The class takes place at my quaint Wagashi shop in central Tokyo, founded in 1961.
Even though the shop is located in Shinjuku, one of the busiest districts in Japan, the surrounding neighborhood still retains an old-town feel with some historic shrines around.
The shop offers a whole selection of delectable Japanese sweets -both baked and unbaked- including dango, dorayaki, and nerikiri.

Rated 4.83 out of 5 from 6 reviews.

An amazing Japanese sweet making experience. I really enjoyed it, the process of making it was fun and the sweets themselves taste delicious. A Japanese to English translator was provided to ensure we could follow along. It felt very intimate and immersive and I would recommend it to anyone looking for something genuinely Japanese to do whilst in Japan without having to go outside of Tokyo.

I really enjoyed this class. Our teacher Kataoka spoke only Japanese but with an English translator at hand. Most of the demonstrations were visual in any case so we just had to watch him and copy. He imparted some very useful techniques and I feel that I have learned a new skill. A rewarding experience.

The wagashi making class was enjoyable in that it was a hands-on experience for each of the participants. Bear in mind that the wagashi that one is taught to make is different, and a simpler one than the ones displayed in the ad on Airbnb. It would be also very useful if the recipes were provided in English as well rather than solely in Japanese. A plus point was that there was an English speaking interpreter to translate whatever the teacher was dictating as the lesson progressed.

Fantastic experience! My husband and I felt welcomed from the start. Really enjoyed making the sweets, plus had some to take away.
