What you'll do

I run a fun 2 hour pottery wheel throwing experience for beginners who are wishing to explore the world of clay. I have five electric wheels. There are 4 available spaces per session, (5 by arrangement for a single group booking.) Suitable for children from age 12, unless you are a family and book all four spaces or click to make it a private group. At the start of the session, I will show you how to prepare the clay for the wheel. We will form several balls of white earthenware clay ready to start. I will then do a short demonstration of making a simple cylinder. Then help you to center your clay and guide you step by step to enable you to make your own pot on the wheel. You will then have time to practice some more pots and even add some coloured slips if you wish. At the end of the session you can choose your favourite pot for me to clear glaze and fire. The pots will go into the kiln twice and be ready for collection or posting around 5-6 weeks later. Postage incurs an additional fee of £5 for a single pot or up to £10 for more than one pot up to 10kg if packaged in the same box. (UK prices) Optional Extra: If you would like more than one of your pots, I can fire and glaze additional pots for a fee of £5 per pot to cover, materials, firings and technician time. Payment for extra pots / postage is payable at the end of the session by cash or card

Louisa

I am a self employed maker and pottery tutor. I have a degree in art and design along with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) I am slightly obsessed with clay and love sharing my passion with others. I have a small studio in Scarborough where I offer pottery wheel throwing experiences for beginners. I am a mum to three teenagers, so life is pretty busy. For me, clay is the best way I have found to unwind and relax. Everyone can benefit from a little 'me time' from time to time and I believe having fun squishing some mud is about as good as it gets :)

Where you'll be

The session will be held in my studio at 133 Dean Road in Scarborough. It used to be a corner shop many years ago and now is the perfect making space.
