What you'll do

I plan to offer photography lessons/walking tours in the mornings and the late afternoon or evening. Depending on the time of day and number of participants we will meet at my place then go to a local cafe or pub to sit down and discuss the basics of camera function. This will take about 30-45 minutes depending on the group size. Once we have gone over these we will set out to walk down and along the stretch of river that is accessible in New Norfolk, stopping at 3 or 4 locations that are particularly picturesque in order to take photos and further discuss things such as framing techniques, composition and any technical issues that may arise. All of the walks in New Norfolk are potentially loops so we can return to our starting location or drop people off at various points as the need arises. Evening classes have the potential to segue into a social gathering by ending back at the Bush Inn which is the oldest continually running pub in all of Australia. Morning classes may also end with a further coffee or morning tea back at one of New Norfolk's many cafes.

Sophie

Hi I'm Sophie. I'm a qualified and practicing photographer. I recently moved back to Tasmania to take up residence in the beautiful Derwent Valley, 30 minutes drive from Hobart. I haven't lived in New Norfolk for long but because it's a small place and I am a keen walker I very quickly familiarised myself with the many scenic paths along the Derwent and Lachlan Rivers. I walk a different route most days and have already taken many beautiful photos. I'm keen to share my knowledge of the area and DSLR cameras to help people take better photos.

What's included

Food
I love to bake and will provide home made cookies for our tour.

Where you'll be

The majority of the experience will take place along the banks of the Derwent River in New Norfolk. Even though this is an area that is accessible to anyone who comes to New Norfolk it is one that is not immediately apparent to the visitor. Unlike many towns that are based on rivers, the Derwent cannot be seen from the centre of town or from the main road until you have almost passed though it.

Things to keep in mind

Cancellation policy

Any experience can be cancelled and fully refunded within 24 hours of purchase, or at least 7 days before the experience starts.

Communication policy

Always communicate through Airbnb. To protect your payment, never transfer money or communicate outside the Airbnb website or app.

Guest requirements

Up to 6 guests ages 18 and up can attend. Sensible walking shoes and a decent coat. Even in the summer Tasmanian weather can be unpredictable and it can become cold quickly.

Government ID

You’ll need to take a picture of yourself that matches the photo on your ID. This is so Airbnb can confirm who’s actually going on the experience. You’ll only have to do this once.

Alcohol

This experience includes alcohol. Only guests who meet the legal drinking age will be served alcoholic beverages.

What to bring

Guests will need to provide their own DSLR camera

More tips

The walk involves at least one stretch of steep stairs or a significant gradient which may be unsuitable for those with knee issues.
