What you'll do
Meadow Snowshoe:
We'll get fitted and gear up then head across the street to the meadow. It's about 20 min till we turn the bend and head towards the lake. At about 40 minutes in we are at the lake shore where we will stop for photos and snacks. The beach is desolate with no development and makes for wonderful photographs. After 20 minutes we will head back along the same route and should be back to the house at about one hour and forty five minutes in. Remove gear, say goodbye, and in under 2 hrs the guest has short workout, excellent photos, and some beautiful memories.

I grew up in Lake Tahoe and spent my life exploring it's many lakes, trails, meadows, and streams on X-country skis, snowshoes, mountain bikes, kayaks, and on foot. I've hiked trails for 30+ years all over the world: from Himachal Pradesh in India to Guatemala, and extensively in the California Sierra Nevada. I've been exploring the Barton Meadow since I was a child and it's dynamic nature constantly offers new discoveries and adventure. Sharing this beautiful place brings me great satisfaction as the experience regularly inspires and uplifts participants.

Where you'll be
We'll walk toward the lake, at points the stream is along side us, until we arrive at Secret Beach, a local beach that is desolate, undeveloped, and usually empty. Behind the beach is the wildlife preserve that is teaming with watch birds and other wildlife.

Great adventure hike! Our host Ben is great and patient. He was awesome with my group which included my autistic brother and a 7year old.. the hike was perfect and not to difficult and Ben also added his own touch with history, fun facts and delicious Hispanic hot chocolate which was much enjoyed. Definitely recommend to try this, fun for whole family.

Ben was an amazing guide! He was very engaging, had great information/history about the area, and was super friendly. Not to mention the Mexican got chocolate was one of the most delicious we’ve ever had. It was an experience learning how to maneuver in the snow shoes but once you got the hang of it you could soak in the grandeur of the snow capped mountains and the beauty of Lake Tahoe. A n experience we’ll always treasure and would readily recommend !

Ben is doing exactly what he is meant to do. He enjoys where he lives and to share that with others. He lives in a postcard! He has a calming presence, a delightful family (met his wife from a distant) and knows a great deal of Tahoe history. He wrote us ahead of meeting that the snow had melted and it would be a sunset hike, not a snow shoe adventure. I opted to go ahead and experience it anyway. So glad we did!! The sky was unbelievable. Hues of pink and bright blue rays danced across the snowy mountains. It ended on a beautiful pier and he surprised us with hot chocolate on the beach. He was just so very thoughtful and informative. We took our 8 year old and she was able to keep up and keep occupied with information. Great experience.
