I love Tea, Chinese tea.
I came from a remote village of Anhui province, just like most of villagers, came big cities, looking for more work opportunities. 2001, I came to Beijing, and worked hard to be an English speaking tour guide. At same time, I love and learn
our Chinese tradational culture very much, including Tea.
During my work, I could meet people from around world, and its my pleasure to introduce them, some nice things are belongs to China.
In 2003, my friend told me about Maliandao Tea markets, here is not only one market, there are a lot of markets of Tea.

If you’re on the fence, don’t be. Book it. It was so interesting to see all the different types of tea and meet the different vendors. Everyone was so friendly and I got to try So much tea! Watching them prepare the tea was my favorite part.

I loved exploring the tea market and trying various tea types as well as best practices to brew each one. Be prepared with cash since most foreign cards are not accepted. Good quality and value. Michelle is also a really lovely and thoughtful person.

Michelle had a vast knowledge about different types of teas, definitely enough to answer our sometimes detailed questions. But what I think was the most enjoyable was her being very friendly, elastic to changes in case of some unforeseen circumstances or our request and a lot of connections she have in different tea shops - everyone seemed to know her or be her friends she knows for a long time, so the atmosphere was very family-like. Even though we were a bit late, she didn't mind and spent a lot of time with us to make sure our experience was full.

Unfortunately Michelle was not able to meet with us, but we met with her collegae Zhou instead. He was a great translator and showed us around on the teamarket including teatasting and ceramony. Unfortunately Zhou himself did not know much about tea, but luckily we could ask plently of questions to the teashop owners

Tea tasting seems like an obvious thing to do in China, but it was still well worth the time to attend this tour. Michelle was very attentive and caring, going beyond her duties as a guide to take us around places and personalize our experience. The tea shops she brought us to were excellent (and I ended up buying a lot of tea to take home!), and she took the time to explain the different kinds of teas and ways of preparing them. She also mediated between us and the shop owners. She was clearly very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, which I very sincerely appreciated. She also went beyond that to guide us around other shops for souvenirs, and even found us a great deal for our roast duck dinner! And at the end of the night she accompanied us to the subway station to ensure we'd get back to our accommodations safely. All in all, it was a wonderful experience (especially since I love tea wahaha) and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a less touristy, more authentic, and very enjoyable tea adventure in Beijing.

We had so much fun on this tour. Michelle is an incredibly experienced tour guide who took us to places we could never have gone to on our own. Beyond that, she went above and beyond to take care of us, even making a detour to a pharmacy when I needed something. Oh and of course, the tea was delicious. Please book this and Michelle’s other tours if you go to Beijing. You couldn’t ask for better.
