What you'll do

First, we will tour the back gardens and let the guests try to identify the edible plants. After their guesses, I will show them where they are. We will discuss the lighting, water drainage, and types of edible plants I have at that season of the year. We will also consider ongoing care and pruning. We will select small rooted cuttings from my herbs for them to take home. My guests must promise to put these cuttings outside in their own yards and care for them. If guests are apartment dwellers with a south facing window, they can leave them in pots, too. They can take a photo of their herbs and send them to me to show the progress of their plants. We will go inside to my kitchen, and I will show them how to make herbal tea from dried cuttings. The guests can assemble 3 bags each to take home along with their own live cuttings. I will offer light refreshments at this time.

Learn more about DrLinda

DrLinda

I have been an avid gardener for over 20 years with both ornamental and edible plants and fruit bearing trees. My yard has 3 apple trees, 2 pear trees, and 4 blueberry bush clusters. I grow many herbs the whole year through. I will teach you to use Edible Plants as part of landscaping like me. There are spots in every garden, regardless of size, that can accommodate herbs, lettuces, and a variety or two of tasty tomatoes. We will touch on best practices in choosing soil, location for sun exposure, and handling drainage and watering techniques for ground plants as well as potted ones. Fertilizing and treating for insects and diseases will also be part of our discussion. Last, but not least, students will be allowed to make two tea bags of organic herbal tea from plants in my garden. Cuttings may also be purchased for nominal fees.

What's included

Drinks
Iced tea, sweetened, unsweetened, and Decaf. I will also offer what homemade snacks are available, for example, blueberry…

Where you'll be

My gardens are different in the front and back. The front garden is more formal. My back garden is more like a country garden that flows and ebbs with the degree of sun.
