What you'll do

Experiential Creative Workshops - We will connect with the natural world of the Oregon coast, both the sea and the local animals, the Puffins, all facilitated by editor, artist, and local Cannon Beach environmental educator, Brianna O. This is for those who long to experience Cannon Beach in an experiential new way through local knowledge of the sea and ecology. Drawing Waves: Oregon is known for a vast, wild coast that few sailors dare to pass through. In this facilitated experience, you will learn a few different types of waves found in the PNW ocean, and learn how to draw their shapes. After a short conversation outside about the emotive and physical qualities of Oregon’s ocean, along with some experiential mediative exercises to gain inspiration from the Oregon coast, we will use our pencil as a transformative tool to convey movement & contrast. Migratory Cannon Beach Puffins: After learning firsthand through experiencing Puffins, we'll draw puffins on postcards. Through exploratory writing, the postcards will be mailed but to people of previous places we have lived or people of places we feel connected to. We will connect ideas of place, home & Puffin to our own lives.

Where you'll be

We will take a brief walk from the parking lot to one of the most famous landmarks in the world and the most scenic landmark in Cannon Beach, Haystack Rock. The workshop will be facilitated on the beach, where you will get to experience the uniqueness of the Oregon coast, learning about the myriad of ecology on this beautiful public beach. If Puffins are not present outside, educational handouts will be provided and we will see their habitats.
