What you'll do

Tours will meet in Jackson Square and last approximately two hours. From Jackson Square, I proceed through the historical French Quality as I speak about the amazing history, architecture and famous occupants. One of the stops includes the former site of the home of our famous Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau. From there, I enter the oldest African community in the United States, known as Treme, once named for a Plantation owner, Claude Treme. There I speak about some of New Orleans oldest traditions. Where some of our famous music originated. I explain our unique second line funerals, and the Mardi Gras Indian tradition. We visit the gigantic statue of Louis Armstrong. Normally, the tour would proceed to St. Louis #1 Cemetery located approximately 3 locks from Armstrong Park. However, unfortunately, due to COVID 19, the cemetery is closed until further notice. As an alternative, we will approach the front and side gates of the cemetery. There, you will be fascinated by the ornate tombs and the history of some of its occupants. I will also share photos and videos of the unusual burial process. I will explain how and why we bury our dead above ground.

I have been a tour guide for approximately 9 years in New Orleans. My tour guide services include, walking tours in the French Quarter, Garden District, St. Louis #1 Cemetery and #2. I can also create a customized tour to accommodate the tourist interest. (St. Louis #1 is currently closed to public access and St. Louis #2 is currently open on Sundays only)

I was born and raised in New Orleans and consider myself an authentic creole of French, Native American and African American descent.

Over my 9 years as a tour guide, I have consistently received 5 star reviews. I am a licensed tour guide. My license is issued by the City of New Orleans.

Muriel was very knowledgeable and incorporated unique photos and videos in her tour. She was kind and friendly and even went out of her way to bring Mardi Gras beads to my niece. Would definitely recommend this tour!
