What you'll do
We will meet at Manchester Nature Preserve in Encinitas. The guests will meet Buttercup and Cotton Candy, our angora goats, feed them treats and then take turns holding the leashes as we walk along the nature preserve trails. This is a scenic hike through the California Sage Brush, with wild flowers (seasonal). While we're walking you can learn about the history of the angora goat and goat keeping in general, ask questions or simply enjoy their sweet personalities as we walk (or run) along the trail.
Contrary to goat yoga this activity is suitable for all ages and does not require special athletic skills. We will end the walk with a mohair spinning demonstration and enjoy a cold sparkling water.
Please note: Goat walking is slightly different from dog walking. Goats like to browse, meaning they regularly stop to nibble on vegetation. This makes the walk fun for them and mimics their natural behavior. Also, just like us humans, there are days when they feel energized and move at a fast pace (usually during cooler weather) and other days when they feel more lazy and want to stop for snacks more often. I do not want or expect my animals to perform like circus animals, instead I adapt to their energy level. For that reason the hiking times and distances do vary.
For your safety/ health we currently offer hikes only for private groups (with a maximum of 4 participants)
Other things to note
Try to avoid chemical sunscreens and strong perfume/ cologne since goats have sensitive noses and might not want to take treats from you.
Traffic in Socal is always intense, so please, plan plenty of time for your drive to the trail head. Please, DO NOT DISTURB HOUSE OWNER of 1475 Trabert Ranch Rd

I am a life long animal lover. As a holistic health practitioner I have been studying the healing powers of animals, especially prey animals like horses and goats, on humans that suffer from PTSD, autism and depression. Spending time in the presence of these animals is soothing, fun and brings out the playful curious side in people. After seeing the responses of random strangers on the beach (like adults running after us squealing with excitement) every time we take Butters and Candy (our angora goats) for a walk, I thought it would be nice to share this experience with others.

Where you'll be
We will be hiking through California native plants at Manchester Preserve in Encinitas.
Depending on skill level we can either take the valley trail (easy) or hike up to the ridge with views of the local mountains (moderate).
The Beach Walk is available after Labor Day due to overcrowded beaches and lack of parking during the summer. This hike is tide dependent because the beach we are allowed to walk on is only accessible during low tide.

This was a fantastic experience, and we were truly excited and inspired by our interactions with Simone and her animals. Simone is a terrific guide and so knowledgeable. Her daughter also came along and was a true gem. The area where we "grazed" was also amazing and we learned so much, as well as took in all the beautiful scenery. This experience is well worth it!!

The goats were hilarious and really fun to hike with! They were allowed to graze when they wanted to or stop and have a listen and they were really cute when they ran! Our guides were very knowledgeable and you could tell they really loved their goats! The hiking spot was lovely and had lots of options on how strenuous or easy the hike was. It wasn’t crowded at all, we past a few hikers on the path, but we mainly had the place to ourselves.

Our group of 3 adults and 1 child really enjoyed hiking with Simone’s goats. The trail was great with a beautiful backdrop of mountains and you had a choice to take the steeper route or stay on the easier path. The goats were friendly and Simone and her daughter shared fun facts about them. The goats were well cared for and seemed to enjoy the hike also. If you love animals and looking for a fun way to get some exercise in, I recommend this experience.

This was such a wonderful experience for my seven-year-old boy and me! First, Simone and her daughter Summer are lovely people. They made us feel at home and took time to teach us all about the goats. They were so fluffy and so much fun to pet and feed! Also, the hiking trail is quite scenic. We took the more vigorous route, and it was just right---not too difficult for my child. We came away really happy and glad we did it.
