What you'll do

Guests will be able to suit up in a Bee suit and become immersed in the amazing art of bee keeping. Learning basic skills and if they wish will be able to accompany me right into a hive and explore all the inner workings of the hive. See how bees are working in nature. Go frame by frame to spot the ruler of the hive (the queen). Watch bees actually take there first steps in life after chewing their way out of their cell and hatch out into the colony.
See the difference between male(drone) bees and female(worker) bees. See the bees bring in the pollen on their pollen sacks.
I will also go over how to select and graft new queens and how the process works to select genetics and how the very detailed timeline is carried out from initial breeder hive selection to grafting the appropriate age egg to using the starter / finisher colony to incubate the cells and also the incubator period for the cell. The final step of placing a cell into a mating colony and look at other colonies to see virgin queens and also mated queens starting there new colonies.
I’m open to any and all questions the guest may and will have. I want to share this amazing creature to others they are a blessing.
Other things to note
Open up your mind to the amazing world of bee keeping. Be prepared to be blown away with an amazing experience by a very passionate bee keeper. Have pleanty of questions ready and enjoy!

I am a commercial honey bee keeper in Maine. I travel each year back and forth to Florida with my honey bees. During the winter they travel 1500+ miles to Florida and back in early May to Maine. While in Maine we provide much needed pollination services. I raise my own queens and have specific mating yards for them here in Maine. I typically run between 400-600 colonies and make 10’s of thousands of pounds of delicious natural raw honey that is sold all over Maine. We have large retail accounts and small garden stands selling the honey. I ship bees to hobby bee keepers nationwide.

This was such an interesting afternoon! My mom and I attended, and both learned so much and really had a great time. Matthew was friendly, extremely knowledgeable and great at answering everyone's questions. We got a lot of background information before suiting up and looking at a few active hives. Since the experience, we've both recommended this to anyone who asks--really fascinating afternoon with a great host!

Matt and the Royal Bees Honey farm was spectacular! Even with it being such a busy time of year, Matt took the time to answer every question and show each part of the honey harvesting and bee care process. I learned a lot about honeybees, including the challenges that commercial and hobby beekeepers undergo. We even saw two baby bees being born! This was a really unique and wonderful experience. I'm grateful to have seen and learned so much!

This was the best tour I have ever done! We drove up from Boston for the day not really knowing what to expect but read the amazing reviews and figured we’d give it a try since I’ve always been interested in honey bees. Matt was so knowledgeable, entertaining, personable and passionate. We learned so many interesting facts and were able to be so hands on with the entire process. Highly recommend to anyone looking for lots of learning and lots of honey!

The 4 hour immersive bee experience was a perfect glimpse into the world of beekeeping. I have loved bees for quite some time and I left with an even greater appreciation for what bees (and beekeepers!) do for society. I could not recommend this experience more highly for anyone who has any interest in bees, honey or even farming. I learned volumes and had a blast doing it!
