About your host

Ivy was born and raised in Nogales, Arizona – never realizing until she left her hometown that growing up in an international community is a bit difficult for others to grasp. While things have changed since Ivy left home, she's remained immersed in the community and is an advocate for showcasing and illustrating what the border is really like. Ivy has brought multiple groups of up to 30 women to…

What we’ll do

We'll meet in Nogales, Arizona and walk our way through the Nogales-Grand Avenue Port of Entry – picking up duty-free items at UETA beforehand, if the interest is there. We'll make our way to La Roca, discussing history, quirks and why there are so many colorful houses on the hillside. At La Roca, we'll enjoy a shared appetizer and entree of your choice (alcoholic beverages not included, but…

What else you should know

Nogales, AZ and Nogales, Sonora are safe places. Locals in Mexico may attempt to converse with us, but it's OK – usually, people just want to make sure we know where we're going!

What I’ll provide

Food
One to two shared appetizers for the table, as well as an entree for each person – your pick!
Drinks
Non-alcoholic beverages (the lemonade's famous)

What to bring

Passport
Cash for alcoholic beverages (pesos preferred, USD ok)
Cash for parking ($5, USD)

Where you'll be

La Roca, a landmark for Nogalians on both sides of the border. Built in the late 1800s as Casa Margot, a boarding house, the building was later transformed into La Roca Restaurant in 1972. It has been the location for celebrations for decades, including baby showers, anniversaries, birthdays and my senior prom – ha!
