What you'll do

In this workshop you will get acquainted with the process of taking black and white pictures with a pinhole camera as well as building your own camera from cardboard, tape and a tin can. I'll explain the basics of pinhole photography, and we'll each build our own pinhole camera. You will then learn to load photographic paper in the camera and be given instructions on how to use the camera. We will use about an hour in the neighborhood, finding adequate motifs, each exposing our own pieces of paper. Afterwards you will learn how to make a developing solution from natural ingredients and we'll develop the pictures together. We aim at producing 1-2 black and white photographs pr. person. Of course, everybody gets to keep their homebuilt camera as well as their pinhole photos!

Learn more about Julie

Julie

My name is Julie. I am an experienced photographer with an uncontrollable passion for pinhole photography. Pinhole photography, from which all other kinds of photography stems, holds the key to understanding photography itself. The magic of photography reveals itself though the basic procedures of constructing the pinhole camera, taking pictures one sheet at a time and developing the pictures with a homemade solution of Vitamin C, mint and washing soda. Working with long exposures, this method has given me an opportunity to explore the world in a way that allows a different perception of surroundings, movement and time, producing quite remarkable and unpredictable photographs. I very much enjoy sharing this method of 'slow photography' in an exclusive workshop with a small group.

Where you'll be

The workshop will take place in my apartment as well as in the nearby area. If outdoor activity is challenged by rain or heavy wind, we will complete all of the workshop indoors. It is possible to photograph indoors with the pinhole cameras and longer exposure time.
