What you'll do

Learn all the basics of tapestry weaving and experimenting!

Work with noted Pacific Northwest Fiber Artist Mandy Greer in her gorgeous light-filled studio, making your very own woven wall hanging, learning the basics and more stitches of tapestry weaving in her own unique style, on handmade table looms with heddle bar, using a huge collection of luxurious boutique, handspun and hand-dyed yarns and up-cycled fabric.

This style is great for beginners and fiber enthusiasts alike! It's meditative and also stimulating! You'll take home a totally unique piece of modern home decor. Relax by the fire on cool days and out on my deck in the trees on warm days -- sip tea, nosh on tasty treats, chat with new friends, and meet a Seattle-based artist in her studio in a happening, creative neighborhood, easy to get to on the Light Rail. With plenty to do in Columbia City in walking distance after the class, make a whole day of it, with parks, cafes, coffee and bakeries!

If you have 3 or more people, and don't see a date you can do, check in with me about scheduling one on a day/time you can do!

Please bring a lunch if you need to. You are welcome to eat!

The studio is shoes-off, so bring socks or slippers if you can.

Please plan to arrive 15 minutes before class so we can meet and get started on time!

I am a multi-disciplinary artist, with a focus on using fiber in non-traditional ways. My work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at Centro di Cultura Contemporanea at Palazzo Strozzi, Florence, Italy; Cathedral St. John the Divine in NYC; Museum of Contemporary Craft, Portland, Bellevue Arts Museum, Seattle Art Museum, Hudson River Museum and reviewed in the New York Times. I've been a studio artist for 20 years, and teaching this course for 6 years, with teaching experience from university level to pre-school children, focusing on making art accessible!

Directions and instructions on how to get to the place were very accurate. Mandy had some tea and a chimney on to warm up the place. The studio was spacious and comfortable and she is very good at giving demos.

Mandy's loom weaving class was an amazing experience. My mom and I went together are were 2 of 3 in the class. The studio itself felt like an experience. There are beautiful pieces of inspiring art hung all around. Mandy was incredibly thoughtful and thorough with her demonstration and instruction. She is ready to assist if you need help, but gives you space to let your creativity flow. My mom and I found a new hobby through Mandy's class and will be back for more workshops. I would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone, anytime.

This workshop was just what I needed to get started weaving on my own. We learned more techniques than I was expecting. Mandy was patient and extremely well versed in the art of weaving. I would highly recommend if you are considering!

I had a rich, complex, creative experience in the space of 3 & a half hours. Mandy’s teaching was so thoughtful, clear and specific, and the basic tools she provided so helpful. I was gobsmacked (as we say in Australia) that I could learn this craft well enough to really enjoy the learning, feel some competence and create a delightful weaving that I really like. And I was a real beginner. She mentioned on her website that we would choose among “an abundance of wild and luscious materials” and I sure did. She had all my favourite colours in such variety. She also let me work away quietly at times but was immediately responsive if I had a question or needed assistance. If I lived in Seattle, I would want to actually study this beautiful art form with Mandy for the therapy and the aesthetic. I fully recommend her workshops. She is obviously a gifted, experienced artist and an excellent teacher. Yet she’s gentle, patient and helped me relax to the task. Remi
